  • Snake is a video game that originated during the late 1970s in arcades and has maintained popularity since then, becoming something of a classic. After it became the standard pre-loaded game on Nokia phones in 1998, Snake found a massive audience.
  • The Snake variety of games dates back to the arcade game Blockade, developed and published by Gremlin in 1976.
  • The first known personal computer version of Snake, titled Worm, was programmed in 1978 by Peter Trefonas of the US on the TRS-80 computer.
  • As there was no one owner of the game, versions of it were created for nearly all major consoles.
  • Snake first appeared on a Nokia device in 1997 on the Nokia 6110. It was adapted for Nokia devices by Taneli Armanto, a Design Engineer, User Interface Software.
  • In 2005, Taneli Armanto, received a special award from the Mobile Entertainment Forum (MEF) for his contribution to the growth of the mobile entertainment industry.
  • Snake can be played on YouTube videos that use the 2010 version of the player. When a video is selected, the user can press the 'left' or 'right' key for at least one second before pressing the 'up' key. The game will appear and can be played in the videoscreen.
  • A version called Old Snakey can be played inside Gmail. This requires accessing The Labs, turning on hotkeys, and then activating the app. Once available, it is played by pressing ampersand (&) anywhere inside the main Gmail window.

  • In 1884 Paul Gottlieb Nipkow, a 23-year-old university student in Germany, patented the first electromechanical television system.The device was only useful for transmitting still "halftone" images—represented by equally spaced dots of varying size—over telegraph or telephone lines.
  • In 1907 Russian scientist Boris Rosing became the first inventor to use a CRT in the receiver of an experimental television system.
  • Using a Nipkow disk, Scottish inventor John Logie Baird succeeded in demonstrating the transmission of moving silhouette images in London in 1925,and of moving, monochromatic images in 1926. Baird's scanning disk produced an image of 30 lines resolution, just enough to discern a human face, from a double spiral of lenses.This demonstration by Baird is generally agreed to be the world's first true demonstration of television
  • In 1927 Baird also invented the world's first video recording system, "Phonovision".
  • In 1927, Philo Farnsworth made the world's first working television system with electronic scanning of both the pickup and display devices, which he first demonstrated to the press on 1 September 1928.
  • On 2 November 1936 the BBC began transmitting the world's first public regular high-definition service from the Victorian Alexandra Palace in north London. It therefore claims to be the birthplace of television broadcasting as we know it today.
  • The world’s largest Plasma TV is a 150 inch Plasma TV made by Panasonic, standing 6 ft high and 11 ft wide.
  • The television advertisement first broadcasted on 1st July, 1941 in New York. The advertisement was for Bulova Watch for 20 seconds.
  • The Late Late Show of Ireland which started in 1962 and The Tonight Show which started in 1954 are the longest running talk show in the world.
  • The first video aired on MTV was "Video Killed the Radio Star" by the Buggles in 1981.
  •  The first true all LED flat panel television TV screen was developed by J. P. Mitchell in 1977.
